Valentines Baby Shower

by Barb
(United States)

Hi All

Can anyone help with this one for me.

My friend is due to have her baby around valentines day and I am looking for any great ideas that anyone can offer.

I need to sort out the valentines baby shower food. I could do with a couple of quick and easy recipes around this theme.

I could also do with a couple of suggestions on what to buy for valentines baby shower favors.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Cheers
Barb

Mom-to-be picking out the cake?

I am a hostess of a baby shower and was put in charge of getting the cake.

Today I found out that the mom-to-be has picked out where she wants the cake to be from (a place an hour and a half away) and is going to be basically planning everything about the cake.

I have not been a part of this process at all, but was notified by another hostess. I was planning on picking out the cake (of the type that she wanted,) but making the choice as to where it came from, etc.

Is it normal for the mom-to-be to dictate everything about the cake and expect the hostess to just go and pay for it?

Advice on throwing first time baby shower

by Emma
(Milwaukee, WI)

Situation: My friend got pregnant and for months she was talking about her baby shower. I was under the impression that someone was throwing the baby shower for her.

I then come to find out during our conversation that she was throwing the baby shower and asked for me to help!

I told her someone is suppose to throw her the shower, not her throwing herself the shower. I felt bad so I said "Let me help you" she got happy so I sort of said "Let me just throw you one". She was super happy!

I am happy to throw her one... but we are coming to the point where she wants to invite a bunch of people from work with a large crowd of 50 women. It would be at her home.

My hesitation is that I would like to pay for all the supplies and stuff but with 50 people, I can't afford to pay for all the personalized details from invite cards to other personalized stuff that people usually have at baby shower, food etc...

I have suggested to her before to keep the group small because it is an intimate gathering. She has always thrown big parties for her babies and I feel like she's seeing it as a party.

I have my own opinion about what's a party and what's a personal moment and stuff. Not judging her. I'm just concerned about my pocket. Those personalized invite's cost about 80 bucks for 50 people!

I don't know if she is expecting me to pay for everything as she did mentioned that she doesn't want to spend a lot of money on it.

It would make me feel better if I pay for at least 95 percent of everything but this is only possible if the gathering is about 25 people or less.

what are you thoughts/opinion?
