Pregnancy Symptoms - Morning Sickness

Why this symptom is referred to as morning sickness I will never know, you can be hit with morning sickness at any time morning, noon and night and may have to endure nausea and sickness for weeks or months throughout your pregnancy.

You may also get spells were the nausea feelings wear off then come back, this could be throughout the day, weeks, months or even for your entire pregnancy. Your nausea may feel worse in the morning, I found certain types of food set me off, especially the smell of grease or cooking oil.

Feeling sick throughout your pregnancy is really awful, in some cases depending on the severity of the condition you may find you are unable to work and do the everyday day things like cooking, running your home or even taking care of your children can become a real struggle.

If you are vomiting a lot throughout the day and are unable to keep anything down, even a glass of water then this could indicate that you are suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum , this is a severe form of pregnancy sickness.

You should contact your midwife and doctor as soon as possible, this type of pregnancy sickness can not only harm your health but the health of your babies to.

Pregnancy Symptoms - Helpful Remedies

Don't rush getting out of bed, I found having a pack of ginger biscuits at the side of the bed was helpful. I ate one slowly before I got up and found that this did take the edge of my sickness for a little while.

Leave your bedroom window open slightly to get some fresh air circulating around the room.

Forget about eating your standard three meals a day, eat little and often, every couple of hours or so. Try and work out which foods suit you best and what foods make you run for loo.

Avoid food that contains a lot of spices and especially fat.
These types of food are one of the main culprits to trigger morning sickness bouts.

Make sure that you drink plenty of liquid to keep you well hydrated. Try to drink at least 10 to 12 glasses of whatever you can manage from water, barley water, fruit juice, herbal tea.

Find a drink you can tolerate, especially if you have severe sickness, I know this can be hard as even the thought of drinking can be stomach wrenching, but it is vital to keep well hydrated.

Avoid smoking, alcohol and caffeine

Pregnancy Symptoms - Itching

Why is it that when your pregnant we manage to get just about every kind of pregnancy symptoms under the sun, especially those awful itches.

To make matters worse you don't usually just have to contend with the constant itching, but put up with all the other pregnancy related symptoms you have managed to pick up along the way. I think us women get a raw deal sometimes, but it's all worth it in the end.

If you are suffering from itching this can be caused by the skin stretching, especially around your tummy and boobs and is quite a common condition in pregnancy.

You may suffer from itchy palms and notice the soles of your feet start itching as well, this is caused by a build of oestrogen, so it is believed and fades away after your baby is born.

Pregnancy Symptoms - Helpful Remedies

To help relieve the itching I used to apply a lot and I do mean a lot of moisturizer throughout the day and night, as you may well have discovered the itching does not turn it's self off during the night, meaning very little sleep.

Another helpful remedy is to have a bath with E45 or Oilatum lotion in, this will help restore the skin's softness by replacing lost moisture and helps reduce itching.

Try having a warm relaxing bath with oatmeal in, lots of chemists sell oatmeal bath products over the counter.

Also stay out of the heat if you can, heat rash can add to your condition making it feel ten times worse. Wear loose clothing, preferably cotton.

For more remedies see Net Doctor , you will find a wealth of pregnancy information by product that may help to alleviate your symptoms.

ALWAYS check with your doctor first, this is the best qualified medical source of all.

Pregnancy Symptoms-Obstetric Cholestasis

Never, Never ignore severe all over body itching, especially on your hands and soles of your feet. If this occurs combined with a loss of appetite, dark colored wee and jaundice, you may have Obstetric Cholestasis. This condition affects the liver function and complications can include premature delivery and in severe cases stillbirth.

Make an appointment straight away with your doctor, with prompt treatment of the condition you should see no long lasting effects.

You may be offered drugs to manage the Obstetric Cholestasis until your babies lungs have developed and are mature enough for delivery. Doctors believe that if a women has this condition the best time for delivery is between 35 to 38 weeks. So you may have to have your baby delivered a little earlier then planned.

If you think you may be suffering from this condition please get in contact with your Doctor or Midwife as soon as possible.
